Once a thief has your catalytic convertor, how do they turn that into cold, hard cash?

Thieves take stolen catalytic converters to local junkyards to sell them. Since catalytic converters really only last 10 years, they don’t have any sort of identification on them, no VIN number or anything. It would be almost impossible for a junkyard to tell a stolen cat from one that was pulled from a wreck or an old car.
