Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention

Even though North American vehicle manufacturers are required to mark high-value vehicle parts, catalytic converters did not have any identifying marks from the factory before 2023. We can fix that using our ID theft prevention system.

VRSS is the North American manufacturer of the PIN2VIN theft prevention label solution. After pioneering the industry with catalytic converter ID marking using CATGUARD and CATETCH, we have produced our own product line to better serve you.

Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention!

How it Works?

Protect your investment with three easy steps:

  1. 1. Simply clean off your catalytic converter and apply your PIN2VIN label to the cleaned area
  2. 2. Brush on etching fluid and run your vehicle
  3. 3. Register your label’s PIN to your vehicle using the link below

Using the label/etched PIN (Product Identification Number) a detached catalytic converter is now traceable to what vehicle it was removed from. Law enforcement can search the data base free of charge.

  • Frequently asked questions

Catalytic converter labels have been used in the UK for 20-plus years and are now available to the North American Market.

Catalytic converter theft has become a rampant problem that has created a real challenge for both the public and law enforcement. A vehicle’s catalytic converter is a highly valued and easily stolen pollution control device that has no identification marks on it. When it has been detached by a thief, it is difficult to connect it to the vehicle it has been stolen from and therefore link it to a crime scene.

To prevent your catalytic converter from being stolen you need to shield it from thieves, but this also prevents mechanics from servicing your vehicle, and these shields are expensive.

You can attach a security system to your vehicle, which has benefits but also includes false alarms and ongoing expenses in service costs.

SOLUTION: Add identification marks to your converter that can be traced back to your vehicle ID number or vehicle VIN. Instead of trying to scribe onto the rough and rounded catalytic converter an ID number. We provide you with a solution that is easy, quick, and inexpensive.

What is a catalytic converter?

A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that is a part of the exhaust system on vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine. Catalytic converters reduce toxic pollutants by chemically converting carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen into harmless compounds.

Why are Catalytic Converters being stolen?

Catalytic converters are targeted for theft because of the precious metals they contain, such as platinum, palladium, and/or rhodium which can yield fast cash to a thief. Because the value of precious metals is increasing, the theft of catalytic converters has skyrocketed in many communities.

Although the theft of a catalytic converter may be lucrative to thieves, vehicle owners can experience up to and in excess of $2,000 in replacement costs.

One of the factors complicating this crime is that most catalytic converters are not marked or identified. This creates difficulties for law enforcement in identifying these components as stolen.

Frequently asked questions.

What are PIN2VIN Theft Prevention Labels?2024-04-09T12:11:11-04:00

It is a well-proven security system that deters and detects the theft of a catalytic converter by giving it a unique identity that can be verified at any time of day or night.

What does the PIN2VIN theft prevention solution do?2024-04-09T12:14:25-04:00

PIN2VIN are ultra-destruct labels, laser cut with a unique code and the URL of a secure database – the Catalytic-Registry (www.cat-reg.com) – are applied to a catalytic converter and will break into pieces If an attempt is made to remove them. In addition, a fluid that etches into metal is applied to the labels so that even if they are removed, the code and URL will remain clearly readable.
A thief stealing a marked and registered catalytic converter runs a real risk of being caught if an officer of the law or a potential purchaser checks the status, by accessing the database and entering the unique code.

Verifying the status of a Catalytic Converter2022-07-20T16:07:08-04:00

Scanning the QR code on one of the labels and following the website pop-up will return a message confirming whether or not the CAT has been registered as stolen. The service is free and there is a second level of support for Law Enforcement investigations. If both the labels on the CAT have been removed, entering the unique code will also provide status confirmation.
