In addition, a fluid that etches into metal is applied to the labels so that even if they are removed, the code and URL will remain clearly readable.
A thief stealing a marked and registered catalytic converter runs a real risk of being caught if an officer of the law or a potential purchaser checks the status, by accessing the database and entering the unique code.
Scanning the QR code on one of the labels and following the website pop-up will return a message confirming whether or not the CAT has been registered as stolen. The service is free and there is a second level of support for Law Enforcement investigations. If both the labels on the CAT have been removed, entering the unique code will also provide status confirmation.
